I think techniques like sketching diagrams on a whiteboard are much for suited for collaborative activities or quickly pinning down thoughts.

Long-term documentation is a different thing. That's where diagrams as code makes sense. I originally created the project to enable "living documentation", i.e. generate code from code to show how the software works. But of course it can be used in any case where documentation is stored for longer periods of time.
